The Wharfedale Festival of Theatre exists to promote, celebrate and encourage good amateur theatre in the area, and is a friendly festival with a unique "community" feel.   It is open to amateur dramatic and operatic societies and youth and schools groups and, though centred in Wharfedale as the title suggests, performances given in the Leeds, Harrogate, and Bradford areas are also eligible to enter.

The five categories of the Festival are Drama (Adults),  Musicals (Adults), Pantomimes (Adults), Drama (Youth & Schools) and Musicals (Youth & Schools).  Each competition has its own awards for individual performances as well as awards for direction, stage presentation and music where applicable.  We even have a special award for the most welcoming ambience front of house!

The other important aims of the Festival are to get together and celebrate the different schools', societies' and groups' achievements at the annual Awards Evening (which the Press call "the local Oscars") and to encourage members of all our participating schools, societies and groups to attend each others' productions.
